We are delighted to confirm that goalkeeper Jackson Smith has signed a loan deal with the Mariners for the remainder of the 2025/26 season, joining from Sky Bet League One side Barnsley.
Smith initially returned to Blundell Park on a series of emergency loan agreements and has since made a strong impression during his time back with the Club, helping secure three consecutive clean sheets and seven points from an available nine over the festive period.
A familiar face to Mariners supporters, Smith previously enjoyed a successful spell with Town during the 2024/25 campaign, and his recent displays have further underlined his composure, reliability and shot-stopping qualities.
Having now committed to a longer loan, Smith will continue to work with David Artell’s squad for the remainder of the campaign as Town head into the second half of the season.
Head Coach, David Artell, said: “Jackson has come in and shown exactly why we were keen to extend his stay with us. He knows the Club, he understands what’s required, and he’s fitted straight back into the group both on and off the pitch.
“He’s a young goalkeeper with real quality and maturity, and he’s already demonstrated his ability to perform for us in important moments. This loan gives him the opportunity to continue his development in a demanding environment, and it gives us consistency and competition in the goalkeeping department for the remainder of the season.”
Jackson will be available for selection for this Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup third round fixture against Weston-super-Mare. Tickets for this game are still available, and can be purchased here.
