Grimsby Town top goalscorer James Hanson has won the Sky Bet League Two Player of the Month award for August.
The striker – who made the move to Blundell Park on a two-year deal this summer – ended the month as the league’s joint-top scorer, with five goals and three assists.
And the 31-year-old has been rewarded with the Player of the Month award for helping Michael Jolley’s side make their best start to an EFL season for almost 20 years.
The striker scored his first Town goal in the 1-1 draw with former club Bradford City at Blundell Park.
And he scored four goals in a run of three games against Colchester United, Port Vale, and Walsall, including a brace in the 3-1 win over the Saddlers at Bescot Stadium.
And Hanson was delighted to win the League Two Player of the Month award in his first month as a Grimsby Town player.
Speaking exclusively on iFollow Mariners, he said: “When you come to a new club you always try and hit the ground running, and thankfully I’ve done that so far.
“I’ve managed to get five goals and three assists and, more importantly, the team has started quite well so I’m happy.
“I’m delighted to get it, and it just shows how well we’re doing as a team as well, and the gaffer was in the nominees for the Manager of the Month award.
“So it just shows that we’re on the right track, and we’ve started how we wanted to start.”
Manager Michael Jolley praised the centre-forward for the impact he’s had on the team, on and off the pitch, since arriving in the summer.
He said: “He got five goals and three assists in August so the award was much-deserved.
“And, more than that, the impact on our team – he’s a big threat in the box, but also outside the box he works very hard.
“And he’s a very humble guy, and he’s willing to work hard for the team – he runs around a lot.
“And we’re very pleased to have him so well done to him for the award.”
