John-Lewis Returns To Town!

Grimsby Town Football Club are pleased to announce it has agreed terms with Hereford FC for the permanent transfer of striker Lenell John-Lewis.

Lenny Is Back! Listen To His First Interview

The striker joins the club until the summer of 2022 after scoring 13 goals in all competitions this season for his former club. John-Lewis links up with fellow new recruit Stefan Payne who penned a deal with the Mariners earlier this month, his former teammate at previous club Shrewsbury Town.

John-Lewis returns to the club in which he made over 100 appearances for from January 2013 to May 2015, scoring 30 goals including one in the National League Play-Off final defeat on penalties to Bristol Rovers in 2015.

John-Lewis spoke exclusively to gtfc.co.uk and could not hide his delight at re-joining the Mariners. “It’s really good it’s also nice to see so many familiar faces, it’s just like home and like I have never been away.

“Not at all [did it take long to decide to join]. I played under the gaffer a couple of times already now and when I know there’s interest there from him, it’s a no brainer for me he always seems to get the best out of me. I think I have said it before, I trust him and I think for him to want to sign me, it’s always a massive confidence boost for me and he must trust me so that goes a long way.

“I have just had my head down and tried to work. I have always had a goal and I knew scoring goals and doing my job would get me to the end of that job so it went really well. I’m strong, good in the air, physical, I like to give the defenders a problem and I can score goals as always…I look forward to getting my running shoes on, getting some fitness under my belt, I am sure Doigy has got some running drills for me that he’s been saving so I look forward to it!”.

Despite his excitement at returning to the club, John-Lewis is not getting too carried away and understands the importance of the remainder of the season, with nothing deterring him from joining.

“Not at all [on league position making it a difficult choice to join]. I have had many battles in my career, whether that be injury or helping Newport stay up, that was a battle in itself. This is not something that is unfamiliar to me and I relish it”.

We also spoke to manager Paul Hurst on once again joining up with the striker. “Not that people think it matters in terms of being a footballer, but first and foremost he is a fantastic person.

“He’s a great character and I know he will give everything that he’s got. He’s had some setbacks in his career and he battled through those. I know he’s been desperate for this move to happen, it didn’t look like it was going to happen at one stage but thankfully it has. I am looking forward to reuniting with him for the third time and everyone can be reassured that he will be putting on that shirt and giving everything”.

Lenell will join up with his new teammates this morning at Cheapside for his first training session and will be eligible for Saturday’s trip to former club Newport County AFC. You can watch the game live over on iFollow Mariners.
