Grimsby Town Football Club welcomes today’s announcement on the revival of the Football Governance Bill.
We are particularly pleased to see that parachute payments have been included within the scope of regulator and that there will be a continued focus on fan collaboration and enhanced governance principles.
This is a historic milestone for our game as some of the market failures that have been created now look set to be corrected.
The Premier League and EFL are world class products, but they also play a unique role in the identity of their town or city and need to endure for the generations to come.
Whilst there are many brilliant owners up and down the leagues, we cannot afford to leave the destiny and financial stability of clubs to individuals alone and a fairer distribution of the wealth created by the football industry is most welcome.
The Bill isn’t perfect, but it is a great start for an ongoing conversation and a chance to protect the game for generations to come.
With the Bill likely to pass next summer, and the financial settlement still outstanding, we will continue to use our voice to ensure a fair deal as the details get worked through.
