We are delighted to announce that we have completed the signing of Fin Cartwright on a season-long loan from Championship side Middlesbrough.
The 19-year-old midfielder joins the Mariners having spent his entire youth career with Middlesbrough, progressing through the club’s academy after joining at Under-7 level.
Born in Redcar, Cartwright made his senior and professional debut for Boro in August 2023, coming off the bench in a 3-2 Carabao Cup victory over Huddersfield Town at just 16 years and 161 days old.
That appearance made him the second-youngest player to represent Middlesbrough in a competitive fixture.
Cartwright has also represented England at Under-16 and Under-17 level, earning nine youth international caps.
The central midfielder has continued his development with Middlesbrough’s academy and was a regular for the club’s Under-21 side during the 2025/26 campaign, making 12 Premier League 2 starts and contributing two assists.
Cartwright now makes the move to Blundell Park for the 2026/27 campaign, where he will link up with David Artell’s squad and gain valuable experience of senior football.
After completing the move, Fin Cartwright said:
“I’m really happy to get the deal done and I’m looking forward to getting started.
I’ve been at Middlesbrough for a long time and I’ve worked hard to get to the point where I am now, but I know the next step for me is playing regular senior football and getting that experience.
When I spoke to the manager and the people at the club, I felt that Grimsby was a really good place for me to do that. The club has got good ambitions and I’m excited to be part of the squad.
I want to play as many games as I can, learn as much as possible and help the team have a successful season. I’m ready to get stuck in and hopefully I can make a big contribution.”

“Fin is a really exciting young player and we’re delighted to bring him in.
He’s been at Middlesbrough for a long time and has come through a very good academy, so he’s had a strong footballing education. He’s also already had a taste of first-team football, despite being only 19.
He’s a midfielder who is comfortable on the ball, has good technical ability and can play with intensity. What we want to give him now is regular senior football, and we believe this is a really good environment for him to continue his development.
He’s got a lot of potential and we’re looking forward to working with him and helping him take that next step in his career.”
