Match Preview and Information: Doncaster Rovers (A)

Preview

Next up for David Artell’s men is a trip to the Eco-Power Stadium to face rivals Doncaster Rovers, who currently sit fifth in the Sky Bet League Two table, seven points ahead of the Mariners.

The Rovers are in their third consecutive season in League Two, following relegation from League One at the end of the 2021/22 season. Last season, they sat 22nd in the fourth tier in February, but an incredible run towards the end of the season saw them finish in a play-off spot.

Over the 30 games they have played this season, the South Yorkshire outfit have picked up 52 points, winning 15, drawing seven and losing eight. The home side will be looking to turn around their most recent losses in the league away at Chesterfield and against Crystal Palace in the FA Cup and make it three home wins on the spin.

The Rovers are managed by 44-year-old Grant McCann, who took charge of the League Two side at the end of the 2022/23 campaign and guided them to a play-off position. This is his second stint in charge of the Rovers after guiding them to a play-off place in the 2018/19 season, where they lost in the semi-finals on penalties to Charlton Athletic. McCann has also managed Hull City, leading them to success as League One champions in 2020/21.

A key player for the Rovers will be top goal scorer Luke Molyneux. The 26-year-old, who joined the club in the summer of 2022, has 11 goals and four assists to his name so far this season and has provided Doncaster’s main threat up front this campaign. Molyneux is incredibly versatile, comfortable on either flank or through the middle and has the ability to beat a man and create goalscoring opportunities for himself or his teammates.

Tickets will are NOT available on the gate for tomorrow’s tie.
