Next up for David Artell’s men is a visit from 23rd-placed, Morecambe
The Shrimps currently sit 23rd in the league and have had a difficult campaign thus far. Morecambe have been a Sky Bet League Two side since relegation from the third tier at the end of the 2022/23 season following a two-year spell in League One. In the reverse fixture back in December, a Justin Obikwu brace and a goal from skipper, Danny Rose earned us a convincing 3-0 victory in a wet and windy Lancashire.
Over the 40 games played this season, Morecambe have won ten, drawn six and lost 24 leaving them on 36 points and four from safety. However, their recent form has picked up, seeing them earn six points from their last two games in their fight to avoid the drop, beating and keeping clean sheets against both Swindon Town and Cheltenham Town. They will be looking for their first win on the road since Boxing Day last year, when they beat fellow relegation rivals, Carlisle United.
David Artell Previews the visit of the Shrimps
Morecambe are managed by 49-year-old Derek Adams, who took charge of the Lancashire Club for the third time before the start of the 2024/25 season. He led the Shrimps to League One via the play-offs in his first spell on the North-West Coast back in 2021. Other managerial roles have seen him lead Ross County to two separate Scottish titles over two spells.
A key player for the visitors will be striker Lee Angol, who signed for the club in the summer. Angol netted the 86th-minute winner against promotion-chasing Port Vale on Saturday and the Shrimps’ second on Tuesday night. The forward has made eleven consecutive appearances for the Shrimps since early February. Playing as a lone striker or with a partner up front, the 30-year-old, experienced forward is experiencing his second spell of football under Derek Adams, who coached him during his time at Bradford City. With almost 300 career appearances and over 50 career goals to his name, the forward will certainly be a handful for the Mariners, come tomorrow afternoon.
There is limited availability across the Upper, Lower and Pontoon for tomorrow’s game, but there is still plenty of availability in the Main Stand and behind the goal in the Osmond Stand.
Tickets can be purchased by coming into the Blundell Park Ticket Office or visiting our online Ticket Portal.
The Osmond Stand will be housing children from local schools thanks to a community initiative launched by Big Red last month.
Minute’s Applause for Bryan Huxford
Following the recent passing of former Vice Chairman, Bryan Huxford, a minute’s applause will be held before kick-off tomorrow afternoon in his memory.
Due to this taking place, we will not be having the penalties taken against Mighty Mariner on the pitch.
