Match Preview & Information: Notts County (H)

David Artell Previews tie with Notts County

Preview

Next up for David Artell’s Mariners is a return to home soil, as we host play-off challengers, Notts County. After two difficult results on the spin, losing to both Accrington Stanley and Bradford City since the turn of the year, this fixture has all the makings of an exciting tie.

Our visitors, Notts County come to Blundell Park in red-hot form, having won four of their last five games, only failing to pick up three points against run-away league leaders, Walsall. In their most recent fixture against Swindon Town, a brace from former-Premier League striker, David McGoldrick secured all three points for a side within reaching distance from second position in the Sky Bet League Two table.

As it stands, the Magpies currently reside in sixth position in the table, separated by only three points from the Mariners. Over the 24 games they have played so far this campaign they have won 11, lost six times and drawn on seven occasions.

Notts County are managed by 44-year-old Stuart Maynard, an experienced manager and former player, having played for numerous non-league sides before eventually moving into coaching where he had success at Hemel Hempstead Town and later Wealdstone. After relative success at Wealdstone, including the highest league finish in 36-years, Maynard was appointed in January 2024 as head coach of Notts County.

County’s front line has not been short of goals in recent games, with a number of players pitching in with goals. A key player that will need to see Artell’s back-line at their best is attacking midfielder Daniel Crowley, who netted a brace in our previous fixture. The 27-year-old attacking midfielder has played 18 times this season, netting four times and assisting on six occasions.

The Irish forward began his career with Aston Villa as a youth prospect, then joining the youth set up at Arsenal before making a move to Dutch side, Willem II. After a spell playing in the Netherlands, he returned to England, playing for clubs such as Birmingham City, Hull City and Cheltenham Town, before returning to former side Willem II, moving back to Morecambe and eventually making his way to the East Midlands, joining Notts County in July 2023.
