Match Preview | v Plymouth Argyle

The Mariners welcome the League One leaders Plymouth Argyle to Blundell Park tomorrow in the First Round of the Emirates FA Cup, kick off 3pm.

Town will be looking to bounce back from the disappointing defeats to Barrow and Hartlepool United last week and book a place in the second round of the competition for the first time since 2018.

The Pilgrims come to Cleethorpes in red-hot form, unbeaten in their last 16 games and fresh from a 4-2 victory against Exeter City on Monday night.

We have created this match preview to bring you all the key information you need to know, heading into tomorrow’s big match.

Team News

Paul Hurst should have Anthony Glennon, Danilo Orsi and Brendan Kiernan available for selection again after missing last weekend’s trip to Hartlepool.

Jordan Maguire-Drew is edging closer to a return after training this week, but Saturday is likely to come too soon for the winger.

Despite John McAtee featuring for Luton Town’s Development team during the week, the forward is still some way off a return to first team action.

Previous Meetings

Tomorrow will be the 35th meeting between the two clubs, with the Pilgrims winning 11 of those encounters, the Mariners 9 and 14 games ending in a draw.

Town last tasted victory back in November 2016 with a fine 3-0 victory at Home Park in one of Marcus Bignot’s first games in charge.

The last time the two clubs played each other was on 3rd March 2020, just before the Covid-19 pandemic, when the Pilgrims ran out 3-0 winners on their way to securing promotion from League Two.
