Match Report: Newark Town Ladies 0-8 Grimsby Town Women

Grimsby Town Women delivered a statement performance on the road, sweeping aside Newark Town Ladies with an outstanding 8-0 victory to continue their impressive form.

Town were on the front foot from the first whistle. Early chances fell to Eden Pedersen and Beth Wharton, with the Newark goalkeeper twice called into action inside the opening minutes. The breakthrough came on five minutes, when Milly North powered down the right and cut the ball back for Wharton, who side-footed home to open the scoring.

The Mariners doubled their lead on 25 minutes. After driving forward, Abbie Emslie slipped the ball through to Wharton, who danced past three defenders before coolly slotting in her second of the afternoon. Moments later, Town made it three as North found Demi Barai, who set herself and finished confidently.

Town’s intensity refused to drop, and their fourth arrived just before the break. After a scramble in the box, Barai reacted quickest to fire home her second of the game. Deep into first-half stoppage time, substitute Betsy Thomas added a spectacular fifth, driving forward and unleashing a 20-yard strike that found the bottom corner.
