Michael Jolley Post-Colchester United Press Conference

Grimsby Town manager Michael Jolley was pleased with his side’s character as they came from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Colchester United at Blundell Park.

The Mariners were 2-0 down at the break after first-half goals from Frank Nouble and Luke Norris.

But they got back into the game early in the second half as James Hanson scored from the penalty spot on 48 minutes, before Matt Green scored with a wonder-strike three minutes from time.

And Jolley was happy with his side’s character and resilience to come from behind to get the draw in Sky Bet League Two.

Speaking on iFollow Mariners, he said: “We have to be pleased overall because we had a mountain to climb at half time.

“I think we showed real character and we had a real go in the second half.

“We knew it would be an uphill task but we got the early goal second half which really helped.

“And we kept fighting to the end, and we’re not perfect as a team but I think we’ve shown already that we’ve got good character and it was a good point for us to come back and take.

“There were a few things going off in the first half that I wasn’t too happy with, but ultimately we’ve got to control our own performance.

“The first goal we conceded was a little bit unlucky, there was a ricochet and it fell to Frank Nouble and it was a really good finish.

“But the second goal I think we should have done better – we should have dealt with that situation much better.

“We gave ourselves a really difficult situation, but we weren’t all bad in the first half.

“We created some good moments, but clearly coming in 2-0 down at half time it was a difficult task.”

Jolley praised striker Matt Green for his perseverance and effort to get his first goal for the club.

He said: “It was a great goal by Greeny. A goal has been coming for him – he’s been getting in some good positions.

“But it was a terrific finish right in the top corner so I’m delighted for him.”
