Grimsby Town Foundation coach Mikey Pickett has been named as Community Captain for Premier League More Than A Game initiative.
Mikey has been chosen as Grimsby Town Football Club’s 2025 Community Captain for his incredible commitment to the community and for his role as Premier League Kicks Lead at Grimsby Town Foundation.
Over the past couple of weeks, the Premier League and clubs have been celebrating the ‘More Than A Game’ campaign and highlighting the positive impact of Premier League investment into communities and clubs at every level of football.
The Premier League is investing £1.6 billion into wider football and communities between 2022 and 2025 to support football at every level of the game across England and Wales. This world-leading funding into clubs, communities and facilities positively impacts and inspires millions of people.
On receiving the award, Mikey said, “I’m really honoured to get this award. Football has always been more than just a game to me and a way to bring people together and make a real difference in the community.
“This award isn’t just for me. It’s for everyone at Grimsby Town Foundation, the amazing team I work with, and, most importantly, the young people that show up, take part, and make our sessions what they are.
“Seeing the impact we have on the young people is fantastic and very rewarding. Whether it’s helping someone feel included, building their confidence, or something just as simple as making them smile. I’m so grateful to be part of this, and I can’t wait to keep going.”
Grimsby Town Football Club are proud to celebrate the achievements of our chosen Premier League Community Captain, Mikey Pickett, recognising the instrumental role he plays in the delivery of our Premier League Kicks programmes at the Foundation and so much more.
Mike Thompson, Community Director at Grimsby Town Foundation said, “Mikey is a fine example of everything a community captain optimises. Mikey has been a participant, he’s gone through education with the Foundation, he started his employed work with us as a casual coach, then became a full-time member of staff and now leads our Premier League Kicks Programme.
“It’s rare Mikey doesn’t have a smile on his face and working in our disability and inclusion team he inspires young people daily giving them opportunities they wouldn’t have had without his interventions.”
Premier League Director of Community Nick Perchard said: “It is so important that we continue to recognise and collectively highlight the positive impact that work within local communities has, championing those at the heart of Premier League-funded initiatives. Success on the pitch enables the Premier League to share unparallelled investment into communities and football at all levels across England and Wales.”
