Morris Is A Mariner!

Grimsby Town Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of former Burton Albion midfielder Bryn Morris on a one-year deal.

The 26-year-old becomes manager Paul Hurstโ€™s latest signing, a player who he managed at his former club, Shrewsbury Town. Morris began his career at Middlesbrough, where he joined as an 11-year-old in the Clubโ€™s Academy system, before signing his first professional terms in 2013. After loan spells at Burton Albion, Coventry City, York City and Walsall, Morris signed for then Paul Hurstโ€™s Shrewsbury Town in 2017, spending two years at the club.

The former England Youth International captain also went on to represent Wycombe Wanderers, Portsmouth, Northampton Town and most recently, Burton Albion. For the final half of the 2021/22 season, Morris signed for Hartlepool United on loan, a move which was expected to be made permanent. This was discussed further by manager Paul Hurst this afternoon, who spoke to gtfc.co.uk.

โ€œBryn is a really good footballer. Heโ€™s a midfield player who I brought in at Shrewsbury from Middlesbrough, he really enjoyed it and we signed him permanently. Heโ€™s played at England Youth levels, started off as more of a holding midfield player, can play higher up as well, heโ€™s good on the ball, a good professional and a fit lad.

โ€œHe has had some struggles with injuries, a bit of bad luck along the way, he went to Hartlepool at the end of last season and the plan for him was to sign there permanently. I think because of the change of manager, that situation changed, he went back to Burton but because of his situation with Hartlepool, he wasnโ€™t on the radar but then I had a call that he hadnโ€™t signed there and that certainly sparked my interest in him again.

โ€œHe has a great passing range, he is just a good footballer. He has had a good upbringing and my idea is to bring him back up to the levels that I know he can produce and I think thatโ€™s what Bryn is looking for. With Bryn, he is another midfielder so suddenly weโ€™re looking a lot stronger in that area from being admittedly light, but it is an example of patience paying offโ€.

Morris spoke exclusively to GTTV this afternoon, following the midfielderโ€™s contract being signed.

โ€œIโ€™m excited to get going. I am glad that itโ€™s over the line and I am looking forward to the season ahead.

โ€œPaul was certainly a big factor [in joining Grimsby]. I know him and Doigy do things right, theyโ€™re really professional, hardworking and I know he will have honest players in a good dressing room and I feel like the recruitment is always good, there is always a good set of lads in there and there is a foundation there to kick on.

โ€œIn terms of my best position, I like to play the 8 role, if thereโ€™s a deep player there and two higher up, but similarly if we are playing a two and then three ahead, then I like to play in a two but as the gaffer says, he likes a midfielder to be able to do a bit of everything so hopefully I can bring a lot to the team.

โ€œI feel I have got a good passing range and a good engine on myself, my style of play is playing through the thirds with a lot of energy. Hopefully, I can also add some goals, not something I have done massively in my career but I want to try and build on itโ€.
