New Player Recruitment Lead | Alex Hughes

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Alex Hughes as the Club’s new Player Recruitment Lead.

Hughes joins David Artell’s backroom staff after departing National League side Morecambe FC.

Hughes started off as a player, representing the reserve sides of Stockport County and Wrexham, before moving away from playing to focus on player analysis and recruitment.

Beginning his career at Blackburn Rovers in 2007, working as the sole Performance Analyst at the Club, Hughes oversaw all levels from the Men’s First Team to player recruitment.

After a year with Rovers, he joined Premier League side Manchester City in 2008 as a Recruitment Analyst, during an exciting time for the club, with the financial takeover of Sheik Mansour happening in the same year.

Two years later, he made the move South to the capital city, to join Fulham as their Head of Analysis for the 2010-11 season, before moving overseas to work in Portugal for a private Academy system between 2011 to 2014.

Hughes then became a player agent and for the next decade gained vital experience in player negotiations.

More recently, Hughes joined National League AFC Fylde as their Director of Football, and after eight months made the move to Morecambe.

Speaking of the new addition to his backroom staff, Town boss David Artell said:

“We’re absolutely delighted to welcome Alex to our Football Club. We carried out a rigorous recruitment process with over 100 candidates and Alex was the standout applicant.

His experience and knowledge in player negotiations along with his background and pedigree from his previous clubs really made him an outstanding choice.

I’m excited to work with him as we look to continue to develop our recruitment process and improve the talent on the pitch.”

Welcome to the Mariners, Alex!
