Orsi Signs For The Mariners!

Grimsby Town Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Danilo Orsi from Harrogate Town on a two-year contract, commencing 1st July. The 26-year-old becomes Paul Hurst’s second new recruit of the summer, joining Niall Maher who signed earlier this week.

Orsi has enjoyed a different development pathway, spending three years in the United States at Eastern Florida State College, where he studied Business Management. Whilst studying, Orsi played for the College side where he scored 27 goals in 32 appearances during his two seasons, breaking the College’s goalscoring record. During his time in America, Orsi also represented Californian side Chivas, as well as Fort Lauderdale back in Florida before his move back to the UK.

After returning to England in 2018, Orsi played at non-league sides East Thurrock United, Hungerford Town, Hampton & Richmond Borough, before making the move to Maidenhead United in 2020. During his only season at Maidenhead, Orsi scored 21 goals in 41 appearances in all competitions, collecting the club’s ‘Fans’ Player of the Year Award’.

In 2021, after significant interest from EFL clubs, Orsi signed for Harrogate Town and made a total of 14 appearances in all competitions, scoring 6 goals before joining Boreham Wood on loan in January 2022.

GTTV spoke exclusively to Danilo this afternoon, after penning terms with the club until the summer of 2024.

“I am really happy to be here, to be signing for such a big club, I just can’t wait to get going. I want to bring goals, I just love scoring goals, I love being in the box. I don’t really care how it goes in, off my shoulder, or off my knee as long as it ends up in the back of the net I am happy and hopefully give the fans something to cheer about.

“I can’t wait to get going. I know a few of the London boys, I have known Chris and the Gaffer for close to two years now, I know what they’re about, what they expect from a team and I think they’re a perfect fit for me and I cannot wait to start learning and getting to meet all the boys and getting underway!

“I think that was definitely one of the big pulls of coming to such a big club, the fan base is really good here. Obviously playing against them twice this year, not only when they came down to Boreham Wood and they brought quite a lot of numbers, but I was also on the other end of the pitch invasion so to be able to play in front of them and have them behind me, I cannot wait to get going and meeting them”.

We also caught up with manager Paul Hurst, who admits that the striker has been on his radar in the past.

“I’m delighted to have Danilo on board. He is a player that I tried to sign last summer and although we have gone up a league, he is someone that can come and do a good job for us.

“He has worked hard for his opportunity in the Football League, which didn’t quite work out at Harrogate but he has now got another opportunity. He has got a fantastic attitude, I believe he is a goalscorer and sometimes, yes you reach a certain level, but every time I have watched him, he has sniffed chances out and hopefully he can do that for us as well.

“He has had an interesting journey to get to this point, not a straightforward career like a lot of players and I am sure he will fit in great with the squad, so looking forward to working with him and hopefully seeing him score some goals with us”.
