Next up for David Artell’s men is another tie on home soil against Salford City in Sky Bet League Two
The Ammies currently sit 11th in the league and are experiencing their sixth consecutive season in the fourth tier following back-to-back promotions from National League North which saw them enter League Two for the first time in their history in 2019. In the reverse fixture at the Peninsula stadium in October, a Luca Barrington brace earned the Mariners a deserved win on the road.
Over the 36 games played this season, The Magpies have won 13, drawn eleven and lost twice. Their recent form has seen them win only once in their last seven league outings and they will be looking for their first win on the road since the 4th January.
David Artell previews the visit of Salford City
Salford are coached by 44-year-old Karl Robinson, where he’s been in charge since January last year and guided the Greater Manchester club to a 20th place finish in the 2023-24 campaign, two points above the Mariners. Robinson’s previous managerial experiences have seen him a few EFL clubs, but most notably MK Dons, where he spent 6 years, taking them from League One to the Championship.
A key player for the Ammies will be defender Luke Garbutt. The 31-year-old left-back joined the Ammies in the summer of 2023 and has gone on to make over 75 appearances for the Greater Manchester outfit. With experience in the Premier League and Europa League with Everton and over 300 professional appearances to his name, Garbutt is a calm presence in Karl Robinson’s back-line. The defender has a wicked delivery on him and is very creative and offensive style of play.
