Town’s Youth Team return to Blundell Park this evening as they face Luton Town in the Youth Development League Cup quarter-final, with a place in the last four up for grabs. Kick-off is at 7pm, and supporters are encouraged to come along and back the next generation of Mariners under the lights.
Neil Woods’ side head into the tie looking to respond positively after their unbeaten league run, stretching back to August, was brought to an end by Bradford City last week. Despite the setback, Town will take confidence from an impressive start to 2026 and a string of strong performances that have showcased the squad’s attacking quality, energy and growing consistency.
Recent weeks have seen the young Mariners deliver some eye-catching results, including a controlled 4-1 victory over Chesterfield thanks to goals from Alex Graham, Elliot Smith, Carlo Midwinter and Henry Brown. That followed a thrilling 6-2 win against Notts County, where Brown struck twice on his return, alongside further goals from Graham, Smith, Ted Sharp and Josh Edwards. Earlier in the campaign, Town also secured notable 4-1 away successes at both Burton Albion and Rotherham United, underlining the resilience within the group.
Cup form has also been encouraging. Town progressed from the group stage after recording victories over Preston North End and Hull City, with their only defeat coming narrowly against Barnsley, ensuring top spot and a deserved place in the knockout rounds.
Tonight’s fixture presents another exciting test for Woods’ side and a valuable opportunity for supporters to see some of the Club’s brightest young talents competing in a high-stakes encounter.
