Rae Walker Shortlisted for 2026 EFL Club Employee Award

We are delighted to announce that Club Shop Manager Rae Walker has been shortlisted for the EFL Club Employee Award at the 2026 EFL Awards.

The prestigious award recognises the outstanding work of staff across the English Football League who make an exceptional contribution behind the scenes at their clubs.

Rae joins Wendy Thomas (Middlesbrough) and Alan Long (Lincoln City) on this year’s shortlist, with the winner set to be announced at the 2026 EFL Awards ceremony on Sunday 19th April, which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Football.

A Lifetime Of Service To Grimsby Town

Rae has dedicated more than 40 years of service to Grimsby Town Football Club, becoming one of the most respected and valued members of staff within the organisation.

During that time, she has undertaken several key roles across the club, including serving as Club Secretary, before taking on the position of Club Shop Manager 18 years ago.

Under Rae’s leadership, the club’s retail department has flourished, becoming one of the most successful and reliable commercial operations at Blundell Park.

Record Breaking Retail Success

During the 2025/26 season, Rae achieved a historic milestone by delivering the first-ever £1 million-plus cash turnover in the club shop’s history.

Her leadership has driven remarkable long-term growth in retail performance. In the 2016/17 season, the club shop generated approximately £300,000 in cash turnover. Through Rae’s vision, attention to detail and dedication to improving the supporter experience, that figure has steadily increased year-on-year.

By the current season, turnover has surpassed £1 million, meaning retail revenue has more than tripled in the space of a decade.

The growth has been consistent in recent seasons, with turnover rising from £700,000 in 2023/24 to £800,000 in 2024/25, before reaching record-breaking levels in 2025/26.

Outstanding Service For Supporters

Beyond the financial success of the club shop, Rae is widely recognised for her exceptional customer service and personal approach with supporters.

Her standards have been formally praised by both the EFL and independent retail auditors, reflecting the welcoming and positive environment she has created for fans visiting the club shop.

Supporters regularly highlight the personal experience they receive, with Rae often going above and beyond to help fans celebrate special moments connected to the club.

A Valued Member Of The Club

Rae’s impact extends far beyond retail operations. Internally, she is known as someone who is always willing to help colleagues across the organisation.

From preparing framed shirts for sponsors and player milestones to supporting club events and matchday operations, Rae’s work plays an important role in creating memorable moments for players, partners and supporters alike.

Her loyalty, professionalism and passion for Grimsby Town have made her a hugely respected figure across the club and someone many regard as a true Mariners legend.

Grimsby Town CEO Polly Bancroft paid tribute to Rae following the announcement of the shortlist.

“Rae Walker is one of the most respected and admired members of staff at Grimsby Town,” she said.

“Her dedication to the club spans more than 40 years, and throughout that time she has consistently demonstrated the values that define our organisation; hard work, loyalty and a genuine passion for our supporters.

“The success of the club shop under Rae’s leadership speaks for itself, but what truly sets her apart is the care she shows to everyone she meets.

“Supporters know that when they walk into the shop they are being welcomed by someone who truly loves the club.

“Internally, Rae is known as someone who will help anyone with anything, and that generosity of spirit has made her a hugely valued member of the team.

“She is a true club legend.”

The 2026 EFL Awards will take place on Sunday 19th April, celebrating the achievements of players, managers, clubs and staff across the English Football League.

Everyone at Grimsby Town congratulates Rae on this fantastic and well-deserved recognition.
