Town boss Michael Jolley says that his side are moving in the right direction and Jolley’s team received praise for the performance at AESSEAL New York Stadium from Rotherham boss, Paul Warne.
Speaking on iFollow, Jolley said: We’re definitely moving in the right direction.
“It’s not perfect yet, but we definitely had a better performance than we did on Tuesday, and if we can improve again into next Tuesday, then we’ve just got to keep moving forward.
“It’s great that we could agree with Paul Warne to do the four blocks of 30 minutes. It enabled us to give more minutes to more players.
“Really at this point it’s still about getting the number of minutes for each player to the right level so they’ve done the right amount of game time.
“But of course alongside that you’re looking for team shape and to develop performance, and also for individuals to stake a claim to be in the team at the start of the season. I think we saw all of that.”
“I think our shape was much better, and we had a better understanding of how our shape works, and within that I think some individuals did really well.
“JJ’s (Hooper) got himself a goal from a great assist by Jordan (Cook), so overall to come away to a Championship side, I think we did well.
“Looking over the whole 120 minutes, I think they’ve got a deeper squad than us, but you’d expect that given the fact they’re two divisions higher.
“A lot of our lads did really well, and speaking to their manager, he was complimentary about how we played, so I was happy overall.”
And Rotherham boss, Paul Warne, told www.millers.co.uk: “I was really happy with the work out and there were no injuries.
“The best thing for me was that we played against a 3-5-2, and in fairness Grimsby kept the ball really well and it was a better game than I could have hoped for, as in it was more like a Championship game than a League One fixture.”
Highlights of the game will be on iFollow later.
