We are delighted to announce that Reece Staunton has signed a new three-year contract, extending his stay at Blundell Park until the summer of 2029.
The 24-year-old defender has committed his long-term future to the Mariners after an outstanding debut campaign in black and white, becoming an integral part of David Artell’s side following his arrival from Spennymoor Town in the summer of 2025.
Staunton enjoyed an impressive first season at Blundell Park, making 49 appearances in all competitions and establishing himself as one of the most consistent performers in Sky Bet League Two. Featuring at left-back, the Republic of Ireland youth international contributed eleven assists along with 2 goals, including an impressive volley against Salford City in the Play-Offs.
Having joined the Club after two excellent seasons with National League North side Spennymoor Town, where he earned multiple Player of the Year awards, Staunton has continued his development on the south bank of the Humber and quickly became a favourite among the Mariners faithful with his composed displays, versatility and relentless work ethic.
Speaking after putting pen to paper on his new deal, Staunton said:
“Last season was really good, I feel like it’s a perfect fit for me, this team, the staff and the Gaffer will push me to the next level, and the fans are just unbelievable! I’m hoping I can do my upmost to make more special memories over the next three years.”

“Reece is an outstanding young talent. He had a very good first season with us last year, especially once he’d settled in. He had a tremendous second half of the campaign, and he’s got a really high ceiling. We are absolutely delighted that he’s signed a new contract with us, and we’re looking forward to working with him for the next few years. I’m really excited to see where his journey will take him.”
