Referee Watch | Anthony Backhouse To Referee Newport County Game

Cumbria referee Anthony Backhouse will be the man in the middle of Grimsby Town’s Sky Bet League Two clash with Newport County at Blundell Park on Saturday (3pm).

Michael Jolley’s side host Michael Flynn’s men this weekend, with the Mariners aiming to make it two league wins on the bounce for the first time in 2019.

And the EFL has confirmed that referee Anthony Backhouse will be taking charge of the game as Town face the Exiles.

It will be the second time in the 2018-19 season that Backhouse has officiated a Town game, having been the man with the whistle in the Mariners’ 4-0 defeat to Bury at Gigg Lane back in September.

And Backhouse, who has awarded 78 yellow cards and five red cards in 27 games so far this season, didn’t give out one booking in that game.

He has taken charge of a mix of League One and League Two games this season, as well as some Checkatrade Trophy ties, having made the step up to the EFL from the National League in the 2017-18 campaign.

He will be assisted by Gary Hilton and Ken Haycock, while Stephen Wade will be the fourth official.
