Town’s youth team travelled to Huddersfield Town on Friday afternoon and left with a 3-1 victory in the Youth Alliance League.
After a promising start, the Mariners dominated the early proceedings without creating any real openings.
That allowed the hosts to get a foothold in the game with possession levelling out. Town’s Alex Markham cleared a Huddersfield effort off the line but, shortly after, the Mariners fell behind after a tidy finish from the Terriers’ Tyree Sanusi.
A few more chances came Town’s way with Edwin Essel and Cameron Gardner having opportunities but they didn’t really trouble the Huddersfield keeper and saw the Mariners go into the break one down.
A superb second-half, however, saw Town blow Huddersfield away. A Markham header from a set piece found Henry Moore, his header finding the back of the net to equalise.
Shortly after, Finley Fletcher profited from an Essel interception to put Town ahead.
In the final moments of the game, a brilliant Town goal came after a great passing move culminated with Milner squaring for Essel to finish the scoring and complete the 3-1 triumph
Next up for Town is a match up against Doncaster at Bradley FDC on Tuesday.
