We are calling on supporters to dig out their favourite Mariners shirts for Saturday’s game against Cambridge United at Blundell Park, kick-off 3pm.
Working in partnership with the Mariners Trust, Saturday’s game against the U’s will be a retro shirts matchday to celebrate the clubs near 147-year history and the various memorable shirts that have donned the Mighty Mariners over the years.
On the initiative, Wayne Brightmore, Chair of the Mariners Trust, said, “The Mariners Trust are passionate about improving the matchday experience at Blundell Park and getting supporters involved in initiatives which bring our fans base together. That’s why we were keen to work with the club on a retro shirt matchday.
“Over the years we have had some brilliant shirts. Some which remind fans of promotion-winning campaigns or favourite players. They all evoke powerful memories and remind us why Grimsby Town Football Club will always to special to us.
“So we’re asking fans to wear their favourite Town shirt with pride on Saturday and join in the initiative. We’re looking forward to seeing shirts from various decades in and around BP.”
Supporters who wear a retro shirt on Saturday will be in with a chance of winning Club Shop vouchers. Our very own Mighty Mariner will be going around the ground from 2pm and selecting the Mariners shirts that catch his eye.
Ahead of the game, we will be posting photos of some of our most iconic retro shirts on our social channels. Perhaps we can finally settle which is the fans’ favourite Town shirt of all time? Supporters can also join in the debate by sharing photos of your Mariners shirt collections or retro shirt selfies using the hashtag #gtfcretroshirts.
We look forward to seeing Blundell Park awash with black and white… red, blue, yellow, pink and every other colour that we have worn over the years!
