Returning Legend: Kevin Drinkell Back At Blundell Park Tomorrow

We are delighted to welcome back former Town striker Kevin Drinkell as our Returning Legend in McMenemy’s for tomorrow’s fixture against Harrogate Town.

A true icon of the Mariners, Drinkell made over 270 appearances for Grimsby Town between 1976 and 1984, scoring 89 goals. During his time at the Club, he helped secure back-to-back successes, including the Fourth Division promotion in 1978/79 and the Third Division title in 1979/80. His performances also earned him the Supporter’s Young Player of the Year award in 1977 and the Grimsby Town Supporter’s Player of the Year in 1983.

Renowned for his aerial prowess and eye for goal, Drinkell became a talismanic figure for Town before moving on to clubs including Norwich City, Rangers, Coventry City, Birmingham City, Falkirk, and Stirling Albion. At Norwich, he continued his prolific form, winning the Second Division title, back-to-back Player of the Year awards, and a Golden Boot as the division’s top scorer, leaving a lasting mark in English football.

Following his playing career, Kevin remained involved in the game through coaching, management, and football agency work, further cementing his legacy both on and off the pitch.

Hospitality for tomorrow’s fixture is now sold out, and we look forward to giving Kevin a warm Blundell Park welcome as he returns to the Club where he enjoyed some of the finest moments of his career.
