Salford City v Grimsby Town U18s – Youth Team Match Preview

Neil Woods’s Grimsby Town youth team are in Youth Alliance Cup action as they travel to Salford City on Saturday (12pm).

The young Mariners fell to defeat in the EFL North East Youth Alliance last weekend as they lost 2-1 away at Mansfield Town, despite an impressive performance.

Lennon Stead scored Town’s only goal of the game, but the Mariners had plenty of chances to get a result from the game – through chances from Evan Khouri, Ayodeji Owoeye, Luis Adlard, and Joe Starbuck.

And they will be hoping to be on the right side of the result as they travel to Walsall in their third (of four) Youth Alliance Cup group match.

The Mariners sit on three points in the group table, after beating Chesterfield 3-0 at home in their first game and losing 2-0 away at Scunthorpe United in their last cup match.

But Salford will be a tough test for Town, as they sit top of their respective league table – the EFL North West Youth Alliance.

The Ammies have won five of their previous seven games in all competitions, and will be hoping to continue their good form against Town this weekend.

Salford are level on points with Town in the cup group as they also sit on three points, after winning 2-1 away at Scunthorpe United and losing 2-1 away at Walsall.

After this weekend’s clash with Salford, the young Mariners return to EFL North East Youth Alliance action as they face Notts County at Cheapside on Saturday, October 12 (11am).
