SMITH SIGNS FOR TOWN

We are delighted to announce the signing of Liam Smith on loan from Cheltenham Town until the end of the season.

The Scottish right-back becomes David Artell’s third signing of the day, joining Denver Hume and former Robins’ teammate Curtis Thompson who also made the move to Blundell Park earlier.

Smith is a product of both the Rangers and Hearts academies and appeared 30 times for the Jambos during a four-year spell at Tynecastle Park. During his spell in Edinburgh, he also gained experience on loan with East Fife, Raith Rovers and St Mirren where he helped the Saints to the Scottish Championship title.

After a season with Ayr United in 2018/19, he moved to Dundee United and won promotion to the Scottish Premier League in his first season with the club. Smith featured regularly for the Terrors in the SPL over the next three seasons before signing for Cheltenham Town in July following a successful trial with the club.

After sealing Smith’s signature, Head Coach David Artell said, “We have been after a right back this window and Liam fits the bill on what we are after in terms of experience playing at a high level.’’

‘’He’s hungry and keen to impress so we are looking forward to working with him and excited to see how he can help us going forward.’’
