STAUNTON SIGNS

The Mariners are delighted to announce the signing of defender Reece Staunton on a two-year deal from Spennymoor Town.

The 23-year-old makes the move to Blundell Park on a free transfer, having made 84 appearances for the National League North side since joining them in the summer of 2023.

Across his two-year spell with Spennymoor, Staunton won numerous player of the season accolades and contributed seven assists in the 2024-25 campaign.

Staunton’s career began as a youngster in Bradford City’s academy at the age of 11, making his Bantam’s First Team debut at the age of just 15-years old and signing his first professional contract in December 2019.

Staunton made four appearances for the Republic of Ireland U18s, making his debut in an international friendly against Belgium in 2018.

On Reece’s signing, Head Coach David Artell said, “Reece is technically sound and has really high potential. He can defend and attack well, so a good all-rounder. He often looks to get forward and has good delivery quality and reads the game well.”

On putting pen to paper with the Mariners, Staunton added, “I’m buzzing to be here and it’s something I’ve dreamt of for the last three years, coming back to the EFL.

“I’m naturally a left-back that gets up and down. On the ball, I’d say I’m very composed and I like to contribute with assists. I got a fair few last season, so I’m hoping I can do the same this season.”

Reece will be sponsored by the Mariners Trust for the 2025-26 season.

Welcome to the Mariners, Reece!
