The Mariners Back Green Football Weekend

Grimsby Town Football Club are one of 80 clubs backing ‘Green Football Weekend’, a campaign that tackles climate change between Friday 3rd and Sunday 5th February.

Green Football Weekend brings together the UK’s professional football clubs, fans, families and communities to unleash the power of football on climate change.

We are also members of the Planet League, which is closely linked with Green Football Weekend, where Mariners fans can sign up, choose their climate-saving activities and register any ‘green goals’ they score!

There are over sixty activities for participants to choose from, ranging from having a meat-free family meal, unplugging electrical appliances, taking shorter showers and walking to school or work instead of driving.

Another way fans could ‘score’ this weekend is by submitting their carpool selfies. We know that supporters car share to away games anyway, so why not earn the Mariners some extra points and climb the Planet League table ahead of its climax on Monday?

You can learn more about Planet League on the website HERE.

To support the initiative, supporters who post on social media their carpool selfies and include the #carsharetocrewe and #GreenFootballWeekend hashtags and tag the club, stand a chance of winning a £25 gift voucher from the Club Shop.

Green Football Weekend is set to become an annual event, and is backed by more than 30 major supporters, including the FA, the EFL, the WSL, the National Trust, RSPB and the Church of England.

We will be wearing a green captain’s armband this weekend in support of the campaign.
