Grimsby Town Football Club is pleased to announce a mental health project aimed at promoting valuable services to people in our community.
This new initiative, funded by the Premier League Fans Fund, will be delivered by the Grimsby Town Foundation over the next 6 months and includes collaborations with various charities to positively impact our supporters and people in our wider area.
Grimsby Town Foundationโs Projects Manager Kristine Green said, โItโs really exciting to launch this new project that will help raise awareness of health and wellbeing related services in North East Lincolnshire that can have a positive impact to the people in our community who need it most.
โWe already have a strong relationship with NAViGO and we believe this will add to the great support we already offer our fans. Ultimately, we want to provide people with important information before they reach crisis point and the football club is a great vehicle amplifying those messages.โ
Several charities have already confirmed their involvement in various initiatives, and, over the coming months, supporters will see their presence on matchdays at Blundell Park. Due to Saturdayโs fixture being all about Blundell Parkโs history and reminiscing, the first organisation to feature is the Alzheimerโs Society.
โWith matchdays set to become platforms to promote the work of these local organisations, we thought that the Alzheimerโs Society made sense for our BP125 fixture,โ Kristine added.
โDementia is one of the UKโs biggest health and social care concerns with one in three people born in the UK today developing the condition. Weโll be hosting a โDementia Friendsโ session before the game to provide people with advice on how to look out for the signs and also how to care for people with the condition.
โThe Alzheimerโs Society will also be around the ground to give information and signpost people on the subject if they require it.โ
The Dementia Friendโs Sessions will take place in the Mariners Trust Bar between 11am and 12-noon on Saturday and is open to anyone whoโd like to learn more about the subject.
For more details about Saturdayโs session, call (01472) 359247 or email NEL@alzheimers.org.uk. If youโd like to learn more about the mental health project, please email kristine@grimsbytownfoundation.co.uk.
