The Mariners launch new mental health initiative

Grimsby Town Football Club is pleased to announce a mental health project aimed at promoting valuable services to people in our community.

This new initiative, funded by the Premier League Fans Fund, will be delivered by the Grimsby Town Foundation over the next 6 months and includes collaborations with various charities to positively impact our supporters and people in our wider area.

Grimsby Town Foundation’s Projects Manager Kristine Green said, “It’s really exciting to launch this new project that will help raise awareness of health and wellbeing related services in North East Lincolnshire that can have a positive impact to the people in our community who need it most.

“We already have a strong relationship with NAViGO and we believe this will add to the great support we already offer our fans. Ultimately, we want to provide people with important information before they reach crisis point and the football club is a great vehicle amplifying those messages.”

Several charities have already confirmed their involvement in various initiatives, and, over the coming months, supporters will see their presence on matchdays at Blundell Park. Due to Saturday’s fixture being all about Blundell Park’s history and reminiscing, the first organisation to feature is the Alzheimer’s Society.

“With matchdays set to become platforms to promote the work of these local organisations, we thought that the Alzheimer’s Society made sense for our BP125 fixture,” Kristine added.

“Dementia is one of the UK’s biggest health and social care concerns with one in three people born in the UK today developing the condition. We’ll be hosting a ‘Dementia Friends’ session before the game to provide people with advice on how to look out for the signs and also how to care for people with the condition.

“The Alzheimer’s Society will also be around the ground to give information and signpost people on the subject if they require it.”

The Dementia Friend’s Sessions will take place in the Mariners Trust Bar between 11am and 12-noon on Saturday and is open to anyone who’d like to learn more about the subject.
