The Opposition – Carlisle United

Grimsby Town travel to Brunton Park tomorrow as they face Carlisle United in Sky Bet League Two (7.45pm), with Michael Jolley’s side hoping to end a run of six-straight league defeats.

The Mariners will be hoping to bounce back from last Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Morecambe at Blundell Park, as they go head-to-head with John Sheridan’s side.

But the Cumbrians – who sit 11th in the league – will also be hoping to return to winning ways after their 1-0 home defeat to Stevenage at the weekend.

They’ve had a steady opening 10 league games of the season – winning five, drawing one, and losing four.
Sheridan took charge following Keith Curle’s departure in the summer, and he’ll be hoping to improve on the Cumbrians’ 10th-place finish last term.

Transfer activity

The Cumbrians had a very busy summer, bringing in 11 new faces to Brunton Park, as they looked to build on last season’s mid-table finish.

Their notable signings include midfielder George Glendon from Fleetwood Town, Notts County goalkeeper Adam Collin, centre-half Anthony Gerrard from Oldham Athletic, and Plymouth Argyle right-back Gary Miller.

They also made a number of loan signings, with Rotherham United striker Jerry Yates, Sheffield United midfielder Regan Slater, and Fleetwood Town pair Ashley Nadesan and Jack Sowerby all making the move to Brunton Park ahead of the 2018-19 campaign.

One to watch

Richie Bennett has scored four goals in 10 league appearances for the Cumbrians so far this season, and he will be hoping to add to his tally against Town tomorrow night.

The 27-year-old has scored 10 goals in 48 league appearances for Carlisle since his move from Barrow last summer, and his decent start to this campaign has given him a platform to build on.

The 6ft3ins target-man has strength in abundance and will be hoping to cause problems for Town’s defence tomorrow – if he returns following the injury he picked up against Stevenage at the weekend.

Tickets are still available for tomorrow’s clash with Carlisle United, or you can stream the game live in the UK exclusively on iFollow Mariners.
