The Opposition: Oldham Athletic

Grimsby Town look to end a run of six Sky Bet League Two games without a win as they face Oldham Athletic at Boundary Park on Saturday (3pm).

Michael Jolley’s side have drawn their previous two games 0-0 – against Bury at Blundell Park last weekend, and at home to Northampton Town the weekend before.

And the Mariners will be hoping to earn their 15th league win of the season, and reach 52 points in the process – better than their 51-point total of last season, against Oldham Athletic this weekend.

But the Latics – who are 16th-placed in the league – are also without a victory in their last six games, and have won just two of their previous 12 matches in all competitions.

Pete Wild is set to take charge of his first game of his second stint as caretaker boss this weekend.

He previously managed the Latics for eight games earlier in the season before Paul Scholes was named boss – but the ex-Manchester United and England midfielder left after just 31 days in charge.

One to watch: Callum Lang

On-loan Wigan Athletic striker Callum Lang has scored 11 goals in 41 appearances in all competitions for Oldham Athletic this season.

The 20-year-old is without a goal in his last three games, but scored in his three consecutive matches prior to that.

Lang, who scored 10 goals on loan at Morecambe last season, will be hoping to continue to impress parent club Wigan with another good performance against Town this weekend.

Previous starting XI

The Latics haven’t played since their 2-0 away defeat to Lincoln City on March 12 – their home game with Tranmere Rovers on March 16 was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at Boundary Park.

Oldham went with a 4-4-1-1 formation, with Daniel Iversen in goal, and a back four of Thomas Hamer, Peter Clarke, George Edmundson, and Rob Hunt.

Callum Lang, Mohammed Maouche, Christopher Missilou, and Gevaro Nepomuceno made up the midfield, with Jose Baxter – who received a first-half red card – behind striker Oladapo Afolayan.

Last time out: Grimsby Town 0-3 Oldham Athletic

Two quick-fire second-half goals from on-loan Bournemouth striker Sam Surridge helped Oldham on their way to all three points at Blundell Park earlier in the season.

And Jose Baxter struck in the 92nd minute in the September clash, which left Town 21st-placed in the league – on five points after their opening eight games.

Tickets are still available for Saturday’s Sky Bet League Two clash with the Latics at Boundary Park.
