Grimsby Town return to Sky Bet League Two action when they welcome Yeovil Town to Blundell Park this Saturday (3pm).
Michael Jolley’s side will be hoping to return to winning ways after last weekend’s 1-0 defeat at Newport County, while the Glovers will be looking to go five games unbeaten in the league – having not lost since their opening-day 1-0 defeat at Bury.
Town beat the Glovers 2-1 at Blundell Park before losing 3-0 at Huish Park last season.
Darren Way’s men will be hoping for a more comfortable season than last term as they finished 19th – two points above the relegation zone – and they’ve started the 2018-19 campaign in fine form as they sit in seventh-place on eight points after five games.
The Glovers followed their opening-day Bury defeat up with a 2-2 draw with Mansfield Town before picking up a huge 4-0 away at Notts County.
They then drew 0-0 with Oldham Athletic before beating Stevenage 2-0 at home last Saturday, and they will be looking to make it two league wins on the bounce for the first time this season when they travel to Blundell Park this weekend.
Transfer activity
The Glovers have done plenty of business in the summer transfer window – bringing in 11 new players to Huish Park – and have had a huge transformation from last season.
Yeovil’s key signings are arguably 22-year-old defensive-midfielder Sessi D’Almeida from Blackpool, experienced 34-year-old centre-half Gary Warren from Inverness CT, and 19-year-old winger Diallang Jaiyesimi – who spent last season on loan with the Mariners – on loan from Norwich City.
The Glovers also brought in 30-year-old striker Yoann Arquin from Mansfield Town, and 31-year-old left-back Carl Dickinson from Notts County.
But there were also a number of notable departures from Huish Park this summer, with tricky winger Otis Khan making the move to Mansfield Town, central-midfielder Oscar Gobern signing for Eastleigh, and right-back Daniel Alfei – who is now a free agent – leaving the club.
Ones to watch
The Glovers have a very strong and much-improved squad and, having scored eight goals and conceded just three in the league so far, they will be strong all over the pitch this weekend.
Striker Alex Fisher is arguably Yeovil’s most dangerous threat to the Mariners this weekend. The 28-year-old has scored four goals in as many league games this season, including a hat-trick in the Glovers’ 4-0 victory over Notts County.
The 6ft3ins centre-forward, who signed from Motherwell in January, has scored 10 goals in 21 league appearances for the Glovers.
Midfielder Sessi D’Almeida is at his fifth club in three years, having previously been at French clubs Bordeaux and Paris Saint-Germain before moving to Barnsley and Blackpool, but he now looks to be settling in at Huish Park after his free transfer this summer.
The 22-year-old has played in six games in all competitions for the Glover so far this season, and scored in the win over Stevenage last weekend.
Versatile winger Diallang Jaiyesimi has also made six appearances in all competitions for Yeovil this season, including the opener in the Glovers’ 2-2 draw with Mansfield.
Jaiyesimi spent last season on loan at Blundell Park, making 30 league appearances for the Mariners, and he will be hoping to get more game-time and goals for Yeovil this term.
It will be a tough test for the Mariners as they look to return to winning ways in the league, while the Glovers will be hoping to make it five games unbeaten.
