The CJ Conversions County Disability Cup and Plate Finals Day took place at Brigg Town on Sunday morning, with teams from across the county coming together to celebrate a fantastic day of inclusive football competition.
Grimsby Town Ability Counts Red were involved in a tightly contested County Disability Plate semi-final, narrowly missing out in a 1-0 defeat in a match where they were unfortunate not to progress. They later faced Boston United in the 3rd/4th place play-off, eventually falling to a 5-1 defeat.
In the County Disability Cup, Grimsby Town Ability Counts Black produced a standout performance in their semi-final, securing an impressive 3-0 win over Lincoln United LGBTQ to book their place in the final.
The Black side then met Lincoln Invictus in the final for the second consecutive year. Despite another strong display and creating several good chances, they were edged out 2-0 in a closely fought contest that did not fully reflect the balance of play.
While neither side was able to lift silverware this time around, reaching the latter stages of both competitions represents another excellent achievement and highlights the continued progress and development within the Ability Counts programme.
A huge well done is extended to all players, coaches, volunteers and supporters involved throughout the day for their commitment, effort and continued contribution to inclusive football. We go again next year!
