Town U18s Hit Five in Dominant Win at Notts County

Grimsby Town U18s produced a dominant performance to secure an emphatic 5-0 victory away to Notts County at Clifton FSM on Saturday morning.

The young Mariners controlled the game from start to finish and were rewarded with five well-worked goals to cap an impressive display.

Town made a bright start and took the lead through Graham after a dangerous delivery from Jalloh caused problems in the Notts County defence. Jalloh’s cross-shot fell kindly to Graham inside the area and he made no mistake, smashing the ball into the bottom corner to give the visitors the advantage.

Grimsby continued to press and doubled their lead before the break. Hastings delivered a pinpoint ball into the box which was met by the head of Elliot Smith, who guided his effort home to make it 2–0 heading into half-time.

The Mariners carried their momentum into the second half and soon extended their lead. A superb run from Hatton saw him race into the penalty area before being brought down, leaving the referee with no choice but to award a penalty. Hatton stepped up himself and calmly dispatched the spot-kick to make it three.

Town continued to create chances and produced arguably their best move of the game to add a fourth. After a flowing passing move involving several players, the ball found its way to Peterson, who finished emphatically past the goalkeeper.

Grimsby rounded off the scoring with another well-worked team move late on. Catchpole picked out an unmarked Hatton inside the box and the forward made no mistake, finishing confidently for his second goal of the game and Town’s fifth.

The comprehensive victory capped a strong performance from the young Mariners, who looked in control throughout and showed quality at both ends of the pitch.

Grimsby now turn their attention to next Saturday’s fixture, when they host Rotherham United at Cheapside with an 11am kick-off.
