Our U17s put four past Doncaster in the Professional Development League Cup away from home on Tuesday night.
Braces from Carlo Midwinter and Harvey Booth secured all three points for the Mariners in their second of three group stage games in the competition.
The game started fairly evenly and was well contested, with both sides creating chances, but not troubling the opposing keepers.
Town started to pile on the pressure and took more control in the game, with chances came from Carlo Midwinter, Elliot Smith, Charlie Carrick and Corey Foster but no one could find the back of the net, with the game goalless at the break.
The Mariners piled on the pressure straight from the restart and were rewarded when they took the lead through Midwinter.
Trialist A played the ball into the head of Midwinter who buried it from close range to give the visitors a deserved lead.
Midwinter added a quick second for Neil Wood’s side when he bought down the ball excellently and smashed it home from a tight angle to score his second of the game.
Rovers pulled one back against the run of play to decrease the deficit, but soon found themselves down to ten men as the second-half went on.
The one-man advantage allowed Town to push on and Harvey Booth scored the second brace of the game to give the Mariners a well-deserved win away from home.
The final game of the group stage sees the Mariners travel to Lincoln on the 26th November.
