U18s: All Square In Penultimate Game

Scunthorpe United U18s 1-1 Grimsby Town U18s

Town travelled to local rivals Scunthorpe United in their penultimate game of the season at the weekend.

The Mariners fielded a slightly younger side, with Evan Khouri and Luis Adlard away on first-team duty at Oldham.

Town started the match well with some good spells of play, Bramwell shot from distance but only found the keeper, Scott produced similarly with a shot from range which was snapped up by the keeper.

Milner fired over after a good run also, but Scunthorpe had the ball in the back of the net – however it was ruled out for offside.

Town opened the scoring when Markham’s long-range shot was followed up by Tomlinson. But United responded immediately with a long-range shot of their own to make it 1-1 going into the break.

The second half Town started to get on top Essel looking more of a threat and linking up well with Stratton and Braithwaite. At the other end Sims, Grist and Jacobs looked solid.

Town created numerous half chances with a lot of the game played in the Scunthorpe half, but just lacking the final ball to create an opening. Scunthorpe were a threat from set-pieces with some good deliveries but the game ended in a draw.

Town’s final game of the season against Rotherham United is next up for Neil Woods’ charges.
