U18s Beaten By Stags

Grimsby Town U18s 1-2 Mansfield Town U18s

Our U18s side were beaten 2-1 by Mansfield Town at the weekend.

A competitive game with limited chances, but Town played some good possession football in the opening exchanges.

Adlard had hit the bar for Town from a Smaller long-range pass, but Mansfield countered and finished off a good move from close range to take the lead.

Town has plenty of possession and territory but didn’t create and real chances in the game, apart from some long-range efforts.

The second half was similar, Town having the majority of the possession but not really troubling the visitors.

But the Stags were to doubled their lead against the run of play with a close-range finish from a deep cross.

Town did respond when Bramwell put Essel through who coolly finished past the keeper to make it 2-1.

Town looked the most likely to get the next goal and created some half chances, and were dominant from set-pieces. But Mansfield held out to grab the three points.

Next up for Town is a trip to Bradford City on Tuesday.
