U18s Get Back To Winning Ways

Our U18s side hosted Burton Albion at Linden Homes Ground the home of Cleethorpes Town on Tuesday.

Town should have been one up within 30 seconds after some great team play saw Boyd square the ball to Essel who only found the keeper from close range.

The wind was playing a part in the game, with neither side able to create any clear cut chances.

Although Adlard did fire over, and Potts dragged wide but only half chances for Town. But the hosts were to take the lead when Tomlinson squared to Essel to finish off a move that had started back in the Town half.

Burton put plenty of crosses in the box but the Town backline stood strong and dealt with the threat.

The second half was very similar, a midfield battle, without any clear cut chances early on. Burton were looking the most likely to bring one back but they didn’t work the Town keeper and mainly were restricted to shots from distance.

The Mariners however doubled their lead after some great individual work by Essel who was brought down in the box. Potts stepped up to dispatch the spot-kick and double Town’s lead.

Town were pinned back as Burton got a stronger foothold in the game, but only having shots from range. Town did have another chance late on when Tomlinson and Milner saw shots saved from close range.

Thank you to Cleethorpes Town for the use of their fantastic facilities.

The young Mariners are next in action on Saturday when they host Mansfield Town.
