Under 18s Suffer First Defeat

Our U18s side sampled defeat for the first time this season when they were beaten by Bradford City on Saturday.

Town started the game in a positive manner and had Bradford camped in their own half for large parts. Essel went close on two occasions, as did Potts with a free-kick. But Town keeper, Boyes was called upon to make one good save down to his left from the Bradford striker.

At half time it was 0-0 but Town had controlled possession, and restricted Bradford to just the one shot.

The second half became more open but neither side could create any clear cut chances. But it was the visitors who were to take the lead. A lapse in the Town backline saw the Bantams centre forward lift the ball over Boyes to score what was to be the winning goal on 65 minutes.

But Town were keen to keep their unbeaten run intact, Stratton missed from inside the box and then saw his header flash wide of the post, and Bramwell found his header saved by the keeper.

The young Mariners are next in EFL Youth Alliance League action on Tuesday when they travel to Notts County.
