We are seeking an experienced and suitably qualified Academy Sports Scientist to join the Club on a permanent basis.
The successful candidate will lead the planning, delivery and continued development of the Academy Sports Science programme, supporting the physical development, performance, wellbeing and long-term progression of players across the Foundation, Youth Development and Professional Development Phases.
Working closely with Academy coaches and the wider multidisciplinary team, the Academy Sports Scientist will play a key role in providing age-appropriate athletic development and ensuring players receive the physical support required throughout their development.
The role
The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring and recording anthropometric and physiological data for Academy players, alongside planning and delivering individual and group strength and conditioning sessions.
The role will also include the planning and implementation of testing and screening sessions, while working alongside the Senior Academy Physiotherapist to provide specific physical development sessions for players returning from injury where required.
The Academy Sports Scientist will work collaboratively with coaches and the wider multidisciplinary team to help plan and deliver training sessions which optimise player development and performance.
They will also be responsible for providing athletic development profiles for Academy players and attending regular Academy Management meetings, where they will report on player performance and development across the different phases.
The successful candidate will also contribute to in-service training and continuing professional development for the Academy Sports Science and Medicine staff.
About the candidate
Applicants should hold a BSc (Hons) in Sports Science, alongside FA Safeguarding Certification and Basic First Aid for Sport (BFAS).
Candidates should have strong leadership and management skills, excellent communication abilities and experience working within an elite sporting environment.
A working knowledge of professional football is required, alongside experience of the Premier League Performance Management Application (PMA) System and an understanding of EFL Youth Development rules and regulations.
Applicants should also have a comprehensive understanding of the Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP), experience of working with minors and a strong understanding of child protection and safeguarding procedures.
Competence across Microsoft Office packages, particularly in recording and reporting information, is also required.
A full clean driving licence is essential for the role.
