Walking Football Welcomes International Visitors to Town

Grimsby Town Corinthians Walking Football Club are set to welcome a special visiting squad from Knattspyrnufélagið Þróttur (Throttur FC), Iceland, for an action-packed weekend of walking football and fundraising this March.

The visit highlights the growing popularity of walking football and the community spirit at the heart of the sport.

The Icelandic team will arrive at Blundell Park on Saturday, giving players and staff a chance to experience the Mariners’ home ground. For many of the visitors, attending a Grimsby Town match has been a lifelong dream. In a gesture of friendship, Þróttur Old Boys will present a signed jersey to Grimsby Town, marking a special shirt exchange between the two clubs.

The following day, Sunday, sees the Walking Football Charity Tournament take centre stage at Clee Fields, Ladysmith Road, Grimsby, running from 10am to 3pm. The 7-a-side tournament will feature 16 over-60s teams from across the region, including the visiting Icelandic squad, providing a fun, competitive, and social atmosphere. The event is part of Prostate Cancer Month, with all proceeds supporting Prostate Cancer UK, helping raise awareness and funds for men’s health.

The day will conclude with a celebration evening at McMenemy’s, Blundell Park, from 7pm, featuring live music and food. Tickets are £10 per person, offering fans and participants the chance to meet the visiting team and enjoy a relaxed, social evening while supporting a fantastic cause.

The visit is an exciting opportunity for Grimsby Town Corinthians Walking Football Club to showcase their international connections, raise funds for charity, and strengthen community ties. Club members and visitors alike will enjoy a weekend of friendship, football, and fun – all in the spirit of the game.
