We can confirm that Stephen Wearne has joined Torquay United on a month’s loan.
The 21-year-old attacking midfielder joined the Mariners from Sunderland in the summer and has so far made 10 appearances, scoring once in the 4-0 win against Crewe Alexandra in the Carabao Cup.
The former Sunderland man last featured for Town in the Papa John’s Trophy game against Mansfield Town last month and will link back up with Gary Johnson at Torquay United after spending three months on the English Riviera last season.
Speaking of Wearne’s short-term switch, Paul Hurst said: “We have agreed to let Stephen go to Torquay for a month to get some valuable game time. We will monitor his performances closely and hope he can have a productive spell which will benefit him and ourselves.”
The Town midfielder will be available for the Gulls’ next game against Aldershot Town this evening.
Good luck, Stephen!
