Our Women’s First Team made it two wins out of two in their pre-season journey on, beating Doncaster Belles Development 4-3 at on home soil yesterday afternoon.
A Beth Wharton hat-trick a goal from the in-form Alisha Dejonge saw Ben Thomas’ side come away with the win.
There were just four minutes on the clock when Wharton struck for her first of the afternoon to give Town an early lead, with a calm finish from a tight angle.
Dejonge doubled our lead not long after, meeting a looping ball from Abbie Emslie at the back post and heading home for our second.
We almost had a third minutes later, as youngster Milly North played the ball into Wharton, but the striker couldn’t connect with the ball to poke it home.
The visitors closed the gap shortly after, but Wharton restored our two-goal cushion on the half-an-hour mark. Some excellent play from North saw her get away from the defender and play in a cross for our number nine to slot home from close range.
Wharton got her hat-trick after a quiet opening start to the second-half. The poacher made no mistake as she slotted home a ball played into her path by Emslie.
Jasmine Lacey in net did well to stretch and parry away an effort glancing across goal for the visitors, but Doncaster got a goal back a couple of minutes later.
Lacey stepped up yet again to make a couple of excellent saves during a period of sustained pressure from multiple Doncaster corners, which did result in the visitors getting a third with a few minutes left on the clock, but Town managed to hold out for the win.
