Work on the pitch has begun!

Although this campaign is still far from over for the Mariners, work has already begun on improving the Blundell Park playing surface for next season.

Today our ground staff, along with the help of some heavy-duty machinery from Bothams Prestige, have removed the top 12mm of the pitch ready for a different species of grass to grow in time for pre-season in July. In addition, around 100 metres of drainage is also about to be installed in front of the Lower Young’s Stand to solve the waterlogging issue which has plagued that side of the pitch for many years.

After investing in the playing surface and irrigation last season, the board have committed to further improvements to the Blundell Park pitch for next season.

Watch Senior Groundsman Martin Deans talk about the surface restoration process in a new video available on our social channels from 5pm this evening and stay tuned for more pitch/tractor updates throughout the summer!
