Grimsby hosted Burton Albion on Saturday morning at Bradley.
Town started well with some early possession and threatening in behind, but it was Burton who opened the scoring on 7 minutes when an individual error saw the opposition forward steal the ball and finish well from close range.
Town then controlled possession, without creating a great deal of chances.
Burton doubled their lead when another defensive mix-up saw a deflection beat the keeper.
Town continued to press forward but created only half chances and at the other end, Dennis made two great saves to keep Town in it.
A disappointing result for the Mariners after last weeks opening day win.
Next up for Town in Bolton in the Youth Alliance Cup.
