Nothing separated the Mariners and Harrogate Town at Cheapside on Saturday as a goal apiece saw the Mariners earn a point in their first league game since December. Shakeel Brown’s opening goal was cancelled out before the break and a goalless second half followed.
Neil Woods’s side got off to a flying start against the Sulphurites, and just after five minutes found themselves a goal up. Shakeel Brown cut inside and completed a tidy move with a neat left-footed finish past the Harrogate shot-stopper to give the hosts an early lead.
The Mariners continued to create chances throughout the first half, with Charlie Clements, Cameron Gardner, Henry Brown and Harry Shipstone all coming close to capitalising in the first 45.
The Mariners looked to be going into the break with a one-goal advantage, but Harrogate had other ideas and brought the score level before the break, Jack Bray rounding Seb Auton to slot home the equaliser.
The chances kept coming for the Mariners in the second half, with the visitors putting their bodies on the line to deny Gardner an opportunity with some great last ditch defending.
Harrogate shot-stopper Frankie Shepherd was forced to make a save as Grayson Giles struck an effort from close-range.
The Mariners thought they had won the game late on, When Collins squared the ball to Gardner, only to see his effort cleared off the line and the points shared in Waltham.
