The Mariners’ Youth Team produced an excellent performance on Saturday as they secured a 2-0 victory over Crewe Alexandra at Cheapside.
Town dominated proceedings from the outset, pressing relentlessly and making it difficult for the visitors to establish any rhythm throughout the afternoon.
The Mariners took a deserved lead when Jack finished well from close range to put Town in front.
Grimsby continued to apply pressure and were rewarded with a second goal before the break, with Sharp rising highest to head home and double the Mariners’ advantage.
Town continued to create opportunities after the interval as they looked to add to their lead, with Booth, Manyika and Jack all going close.
Despite being unable to extend their advantage, the Mariners remained firmly in control and produced a disciplined defensive display to ensure Crewe were unable to create any clear opportunities of their own.
The final whistle confirmed a deserved 2-0 victory for Town, with the Mariners combining an impressive attacking display with a resolute defensive performance.
