Youth Team’s Unbeaten League Run Ends with 3-1 Defeat to Bradford City

Town’s youth team suffered their first league defeat of the season on Wednesday lunchtime, as Bradford City ran out 3-1 winners at Brigg Town.

Town welcomed the Bantams knowing an unbeaten league run stretching back to the start of August was on the line, but it was the visitors who started the stronger of the two sides.

Bradford remained disciplined throughout the opening stages and capitalised on a pair of Town errors to race into a two-goal advantage. Despite the setback, Grimsby responded positively and enjoyed spells of pressure, creating several half-chances, though they were unable to find a way past a resolute Bradford defence before the break.

The Mariners emerged with renewed intent in the second half and were rewarded when Midwinter pulled a goal back, finishing from close range to reduce the deficit to 2–1 and reignite hopes of a comeback.

Town continued to push for an equaliser, but Bradford absorbed the pressure well and struck decisively late on, converting from close range to restore their two-goal cushion and seal all three points.

The defeat brings Town’s impressive unbeaten league run to an end, but attention now quickly turns to cup action. The youth side return to Blundell Park next Tuesday evening (7pm kick-off) to face Luton Town in the YDL Cup quarter-final, looking to respond in front of a home crowd.
