Town’s U18’s got their Youth Alliance campaign off to the perfect start with a win against Lincoln City U18’s at the weekend.
The opening exchanges were relatively even with possession for both sides without anyone creating any real chances.
Twenty minutes in Lincoln were the closest only for the centre forward to find his effort saved by Boyes.
Town grew into the game and started to get some good spells of possession, forcing a number of corners and free-kicks. And it was Town who opened the scoring when Adlard broke free only to be pulled back with only the keeper to beat. The referee had an easy decision to make and pointed to the spot.
Up stepped Tomlinson to give Town the lead going into the break
The second half Town came out on the front foot, intercepting the ball up high but just missing the final pass and lacking end product. City then got back on top and was pinning Town back, but Neil Woods’ side held strong, giving up very few chances despite playing into a strong wind.
Adlard found the keeper with a few efforts from range as did substitute Essel.
Town were to hold on to their slender lead, claiming their first three points of the season.
