We are delighted to announce that Géza Dávid Turi has signed a new two-year contract with the Club, keeping the midfielder at Blundell Park until the summer of 2028.

The new agreement also includes an option to extend Turi’s contract for a further year, subject to mutual agreement between both the Club and the player.

The 24-year-old originally joined the Mariners from Faroese side Víkingur in January 2025, initially signing a deal through to the summer of 2027.

Born in Hungary, Turi came through Víkingur’s academy before establishing himself as a key member of their first team. He made almost 150 appearances for the club during a five-year spell, helping them win the Faroese Premier League title in 2024.

His performances that season also saw him named Faroese Premier League Midfielder of the Year, having scored eight goals and picked up Player of the Month awards in March and April.

Turi made his Grimsby Town debut against Notts County in March 2025 and has continued to develop his role within David Artell’s side.

The deep-lying midfielder has made an impressive start to the 2026/27 campaign, featuring in all six of Town’s opening League Two fixtures and scoring his first goal for the Club in the Mariners’ 2-0 victory over Bristol Rovers at Blundell Park.

His outstanding long-range strike against the league leaders was also his first goal in English football.

Turi has also established himself on the international stage with the Faroe Islands, making his senior debut in September 2025 and scoring his first international goal two months later. He was once again called up to the national squad this week for their opening UEFA Nations League group fixtures.

Head Coach David Artell said:

Géza has made excellent progress during his time with us, and we believe he has considerable potential to develop further. We look forward to continuing to support his development and working together to achieve our shared ambitions with Grimsby Town.

He’s a player who has shown a real willingness to learn and improve, and we’ve seen that progress both in training and in matches. He understands what we expect from him and the demands of playing in this league, and I think there is still another level he can reach.

He’s an important part of the group and we’re really pleased that he has committed his future to the Club. We want to help him continue developing, and hopefully he can play a big part in what we’re trying to achieve here over the coming years.”

Turi said he was delighted to extend his stay with the Mariners and is looking forward to continuing his development at Blundell Park:

“I’m really happy to have signed this new contract. I’ve enjoyed my time at Grimsby so far and I feel like I’ve developed a lot since I first arrived at the Club.

There are still things I want to improve and I feel this is the right place for me to do that. The manager, staff and my teammates have all helped me a lot since I came here, and I’m grateful for the trust they have shown in me.

I want to keep improving, keep playing games and help the team achieve our ambitions. We have a really good group and I’m excited about what we can achieve together over the next few years.”

Géza will now continue his development on the North East Lincolnshire coast, with the new agreement keeping him with the Mariners for at least the next two seasons.
